PATIALA: Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing gallows for assassinating former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh murder, tested positive for dengue on Friday. Rajoana was rushed to Patiala's Government Rajindra Hospital on Wednesday evening when he complained of vomiting and acute abdominal discomfort. He was then admitted to cardiac care unit of the hospital.
Sources said since Thursday morning, doctors were suspecting him to be suffering from dengue. His tests for the disease conducted on Friday morning were found positive. "We had sent different samples at two different laboratories to rule out any false results. One of the tests was positive. Moreover, he has all the symptoms and signs typical of dengue so we have put him on treatment," confirmed a senior doctor.
He said single unit of platelets had already been transfused to Rajoana and his condition was stable. "He is in the prisoners' ward. His condition is quite stable and will remain under treatment for dengue," added the doctor. Rajoana was awarded death sentence by a Chandigarh court in 2012, the decision, which he refused to contest in Punjab and Haryana high court. The mercy plea filed on his behalf by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is pending with the President.
